What cleaning does

For JPEG, PNG and WebP, the cleaner removes common EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, comment, author and time chunks while preserving encoded image data and supported color information. JPEGs that need rotation and HEIC/HEIF photos are re-saved as JPEG; conversion can change image quality or color and may drop the original ICC profile. Some private information can live in other file data that this tool does not identify. The picture itself, including signs and faces, is not changed.

Photos are limited to 40 megapixels so previews and conversions have a defined memory ceiling. JPEG rotation is preserved when a re-save is needed. Photos that require a rotation conversion in PNG or WebP are not cleaned yet. A HEIC/HEIF photo can be saved as JPEG only if this browser can decode it; conversion can change image quality or color. Otherwise, export it as “Most Compatible” or turn off Location in the iPhone share sheet’s Options.

Clean copies keep the original filename stem, which can itself identify a person or place. Color profiles are kept in losslessly cleaned files to preserve appearance, but rotated JPEGs and HEIC/HEIF photos are re-saved as JPEG and may lose the original color profile. This tool does not inspect what a custom color profile may encode.
